Rob is a mining industry professional with over 25 years of experience across many diverse operations within the resource sector. Currently Rob heads up South32s Cannington mine in North West Queensland, one of the worlds largest producers of silver, lead and zinc, as well as a rail loading facility in Cloncurry and shipping operations at the Port of Townsville. Entering the resource sector in the mid 90s, Rob has seen first-hand and contributed to the change in which the sector operates. As an employee he has been heavily involved in the strategic, cultural and business planning of operations hes been involved in, whilst as a leader he has adapted to the changes that have faced the mining industry over the years. For the past decade, Rob has been tasked with leading operations for both BHP Billiton and South32 in roles both office and site based. Prior to his Cannington role, Rob was responsible for the worlds largest Manganese operation GEMCO, based on Groote Eylandt in the Gulf of Carpentaria. Rob is also very passionate about diversity within the workplace claiming that an inclusive work environment provides better outcomes that allows operations to reach their full potential. This passion has seen Rob named the Queensland Resource Councils Gender Diversity Champion for 2019 with the Cannington operation also awarded the Excellence in Diversity Programs and Performance under his stewardship. Rob holds a Bachelor of Mining Engineering degree, a Masters in Finance and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, he also provides mentoring to future leaders through programs internal and external to South32. Away from work Rob enjoys hitting the mountain biking trails around Brisbane, cooking gourmet feasts for family and friends and spending quality time with his wife Michaela and three sons Tom, Will and Ben.
