CRC ORE is a Cooperative Research Centre focused on Optimising Resource Extraction for the mining sector. The centre works to minimise the impact of declining grades and radically improve the productivity, energy and water signatures of mining operations.

Established in 2010, CRC ORE has made significant progress in rapidly developing and integrating technology from concept to implementation. CRC ORE uses innovative methodologies to develop new technology, or repurpose existing technology, often from outside the mining industry, to significantly reduce the time from prototype to production scale application.

By forming a deeper understanding of orebody characteristics and how different ore types behave through blasting, mining and processing, CRC ORE can identify and exploit levers to drive:
• more effective separation of ore and waste
• deliver a higher-grade feed to the mill
• increased unit metal production
• reduced cost and energy consumption per unit.

CRC ORE has developed and tested several solutions for optimising resource extraction, focused around two core areas:
Grade Engineering – an innovative approach to the early separation of ore from waste material, providing a step change improvement to mining productivity and sustainability.
• Integrated Extraction Simulator – the next generation of fast, accurate simulation of key mining processes from mine to final product.

To support delivery of Grade Engineering and the Integrated Extraction Simulator, a comprehensive research portfolio has been established. Projects focus on improving feed quality; enabling mass simulation; increasing extraction efficiency; and maximising system value.

CRC ORE has established a mining innovation hub in Kalgoorlie-Boulder to unlock value for Australian mining through technology development. The Hub nurtures new research and innovation while also supporting learning and capability development for Australian researchers and industry participants.

CRC ORE is jointly funded by Essential Participants – which include mining companies, METS, research organisations, and the Australian Government.

The centre is a trusted, independent broker and facilitator, driving collaboration across all its activities.
