Dr Sun Xiaoxuan (David) is the Managing Director of Sinosteel Australia and prior to this, since 2012, he held the position as the Deputy General Manager. David Sun commenced his working career in China with Sinosteel Corporation before transferring to Australia in 2007.
Through Sinosteel Australia, Sinosteel has been operating in Western Australia for the past twenty years as a joint venture partner with Hamersley Iron in the CMJV, which operates the Channar iron ore mine in the Pilbara. The CMJV signed on the 16th November 1987, at the time of its commencement the CMJV was the largest investment between China and Australia. Today, it still remains one of the largest Chinese overseas investment projects. To date, production has totaled 250 million tonnes, all of which has been supplied to China. The Channar project has made an historic contribution to the development of the steel industry in China and the prosperity of the Western Australian economy. The project received considerable attention and strong support from both the Australian and Chinese Governments.
David currently holds the position as the President of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce (CCCA) Perth Branch and prior to this was the Secretary General.
In 1994 David graduated from Nanjing University of Science and Technology, where he received a Bachelor of Economics. He then completed a Master of Management from Tianjin University of Commerce, followed by a Phd of Economics from the China Academy of Social Sciences.
Since 2012 David has proudly represented the CCCA Perth branch which was established in 2006 as a non-profit organization dedicated to safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of its members. The organization also services its members by increasing their business presence, fostering mutual understanding between Australian and Chinese businesses, and promoting bilateral economic and trade relationships.
There are 61 members under the CCCA Perth branch, with membership mainly comprising of Chinese companies and agencies registered in Western Australia. The business activities of CCCA Perth branch members cover various sectors, such as mineral, oil and gas, transportation, hospitality, agribusiness, finance and telecommunications.
In addition to the CCCA David is also an Advisory Council member the Curtin Business School.
David has continued to work tirelessly to build, develop and strengthen the bilateral relations between China and Australia. He has immersed himself in many events and projects to enhance the relationship between the 2 countries. He is true advocate and prides himself in building a stronger platform for more business and investment opportunities that will benefit both countries for now and in the future.
