Initially elected as the Member for Cannington in September of 2008, the Honourable William (Bill) Johnston MLA is an active member of the Cannington community, working to help people solve problems in both their lives and their community. As an engaged member of the community, Bill Johnston holds “mobile offices” regularly on street corners in the Cannington electorate, in an effort to bring politics to the community. Bill is a member and supporter of many local groups with the belief that volunteers make where you live into a community.
Through an old fashioned commitment to service and strong family values, Bill Johnston’s efforts were recognised as he was re-elected for a second term in office on March 9, 2013.
Prior to entering Parliament, Bill spent 7 years as the State Secretary of WA Labor, which gives him a unique insider’s view to politics. This means he is effective for our community because he understands politics and he knows where to lobby in order to meet the needs of our community.
As a former senior official of the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees’ Association, the union representing retail and warehouse workers, he fought for fairness for low-paid workers in industrial rights, workers compensation and working conditions.
The Honourable William (Bill) Johnston, West Australian Minister for Mines and Petroleum; Commerce and Industrial Relations; Electoral Affairs; Asian Engagement, will be joining the lineup of speakers at this year’s IMARC. Download the programme now.
