James Batchelor is a Camborne School of Mines Mining Geology Masters graduate and moved to Western Australia in 2006 to pursue a career as a Resource Geologist. Over the past 12 years he has had the opportunity to work on a wide range of geology and mining technology projects including Rio Tinto’s Mine of the Future and more recently the Roy Hill Iron Ore SMART Mine and Orebody Knowledge programs.
James joined the Roy Hill project in 2010, originally with Hancock Prospecting and with Roy Hill Iron Ore since 2012, and helped take the Greenfields project through to an operating Iron Ore mine. Most recently he has focussed on developing AI, immersive visualisation and analytical capabilities with Maptek Pty Ltd, a project that has allowed him to indulge his passions for both geology and technology. As well as his work with Maptek James also collaborates on multiple geological and mining technology projects both internal and external including Measurement Whilst Drilling, Geometallurgy, Advanced Downhole Geophysics and Data Science Training in conjunction with Core Skills. James is also competent person for the Roy Hill mineral resource and oversees the geological modelling and resource estimation team.
