Joanie Caron holds a Bachelor’s degree in Administration (Finance) and a Master’s degree in Management of organizations. She is a doctoral student at the School of Indigenous Studies of the University of Quebec in Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT) and specializes in the integration of the Indigenous workforce in the mining sector. She participated in all stages of the project “Sustainable Development Certification for Mineral Exploration” initiated by the Quebec Mineral Exploration Association (QMEA) in 2012, first as a master’s student and responsible for the development of the standard at the University, then as the implementation coordinator at the Association.
Ms. Caron’s thesis focused on the definition of principles and criteria underlying the Standard and was awarded the Gold medal of the Governor General of Canada in 2015. In addition to her involvement in the implementation of the first mineral exploration certification, Ms. Caron teaches environmental economics, natural resources and sustainable development at the University of Quebec in Abitibi-Témiscamingue.
