Mark Rivers started his career with the Australian Army holding various supply chain leadership positions across Australia and internationally exiting as a Lieutenant Colonel. He joined Rio Tinto as a logistics manager in 2005, relocating to Johannesburg in 2007 as leader procurement operations for Africa. In early 2009 he took up the role of GM Emerging Markets Procurement in Shanghai where he led Rio Tinto’s team in China and India and grew the spend profile from $250m to over $1b annually.
In May 2013 he relocated to Utah to work for the CPO in the role of Strategy and in 2015 added the additional responsibilities of Source to Pay Global Process Ownership for Rio Tinto with a focus on driving process efficiencies in the procurement space including all of Rio Tinto’s procurement systems. He has recently moved to a SVP role with Management Control to continue his focus on improving contractor management across a wide variety of industries via improved data, benchmarking and developing predictive analytics. He holds a B. Sc. (Chem), Grad Dip in Logistics and a MBA.
