Dr Mark Yumin Qiu is an experienced executive in the mining industry and has held senior positions in Australian, Canadian, and Chinese mining companies, with a proven track record of creating value for stakeholders through discovery, acquisition, mine development and production. Dr Qiu received his PhD degree in Economic Geology at the University of Western Australia.
As General Manager Project Generation and Acquisition and Head of Exploration and Business Development, respectively, Dr Qiu made a major contribution to Sino Gold during its formation in the late 1990s, its ASX listing in 2002 and its $2.5 billion sale to Eldorado Gold (NYSE: EGO; TSX: ELD) in 2009. Dr Qiu led the team that discovered the White Mountain gold deposit which was brought into production within four years from discovery.
More recently, Dr Qiu led the team that acquired the Southern Cross Gold Operation in 2013, brought it from care and maintenance into production in 2015 after successful exploration, feasibility studies, processing plant refurbishment and mine development, and sold it for $330 million in February 2017.
Dr Qiu is a Member of Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is currently an Executive Director and Vice President of China Hanking and the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Hanking Australia and HGM. He is also a non-executive director of Primary Gold and Corazon Mining Limited (ASX: CZN).
