Masahiko Suenaga has taken various responsibilities for procurement of steelmaking raw materials such as iron ore and coking coal for Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC) as well as management of its investment activities in the sector for 30 years.
Before assuming his current role as MD of Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Australia, an investment vehicle of NSSMC in February 2017, he was a chief negotiator of coking and thermal coal contracts (40 million tonnes per annum in total) for NSSMC based in Tokyo.
Between 2011 and 2014 he was dedicated to the development of a coking coal project in Mozambique and spent most of his time in the country.
Now based in Sydney, he is looking after 1 iron ore project and 6 coal projects in Australia working together with various Australian mining houses.
In addition, since July 2017, he has been working as the President of Federation of Japan Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Australia and the President of Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Sydney.
