Dr Nicholas Baker is the Trade Commissioner to Mexico and Central America. Nicholas also co-leads the Americas Resources and Energy Team covering mining, renewables and oil and gas.
Previously he was Senior Industry Specialist in the International Education team based in Austrade’s Sydney office. Until July 2016 he was Trade Manager for the Resources and Energy team also in Sydney. Prior to returning to Sydney in 2014 he was the Trade and Investment Commissioner based at the Australian Embassy in Paris from May 2009. From January 2013 Nicholas also managed Austrade’s Post in Madrid where he was accredited as non-resident Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner.
Nicholas was Trade Commissioner and Consul General at the Australian Consulate General in Lima Peru from 2005 to April 2009. He was responsible for the Peruvian, Colombian and Ecuadorian markets with a focus on the mining sector.
Before joining Austrade he was Director of Studies & Program Manager at the University of Sydney Centre for English Teaching from 1991 to 1996.
Nicholas holds a PhD from the University of Technology, Sydney in Cultural Studies, post graduate degrees in Sociology and TESOL and a Bachelor of Arts in French and Latin American Studies from the University of NSW. Nicholas is a fluent French and Spanish speaker.
