Mr. Rajiv Babooram is one among the only six Counsellors on Economic Matters currently serving in the Diplomatic Missions of Mauritius abroad. The objective of the Government of the Republic of Mauritius in creating this new position is to mainly implement and enhance the economic diplomacy strategy by creating a strong and vast diplomatic footprint in emerging markets.
Mr. Babooram has taken up his post at the Mauritius High Commission in Canberra, Australia since March 2018. He is responsible for promoting Trade and Investment relations between Mauritius and Australia as well as New Zealand.
Prior to joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of Mauritius, he was employed at the Economic Development Board (EDB) of Mauritius, the National Trade and Investment promotion agency for the Mauritian Government. During the five years he spent at the EDB, Mr Babooram has led several trade delegations from Mauritius to the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Turkey, Dubai, Bahrain and Turkey. He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Roehampton University, UK, and has a first-class degree in Banking with Economics & Law from the London Metropolitan University.
