
Mr. Phillips joined Greenhill in 2017 as Co-Head of Greenhill Australia and Vice Chairman of the Firm globally. Prior to joining, he spent 5 years at Goldman Sachs, where he was a Melbourne-based partner and Co-Head of the Natural Resources group for the Asia Pacific region ex-Japan. Before his time at Goldman Sachs, Richard was a Managing Director at Greenhill, also based in Melbourne. He initially joined Greenhill as part of its acquisition of the Australian firm Caliburn, where he had worked 6 years as a partner and founded the Melbourne office. Earlier in his career, Richard was an Executive Director at Macquarie, where he had roles in Melbourne, Perth and Toronto.
Over his 25 years in the industry, Richard has advised on numerous public market and private treaty M&A transactions, capital raisings and other strategic matters. Publicly disclosed clients in the Natural Resources sector have included Regis Resources, EMR Capital, Kidman Resources, MMG, Alumina, Iluka Resources, Santos, Total, Petronas, Kogas, Drillsearch Energy, Aquila, Transurban, MMG, NSW Government, State Grid, Exxaro, Lihir, Coal & Allied, Griffin Coal, OZ Minerals, Oxiana, Patrick, Rio Tinto, Sons of Gwalia, DRD, Placer Dome, Normandy, North, Plutonic and RGC.
