Tony Kalma has more than 20 years’ experience in the minerals industry. Since 2006 Tony has worked with Teck Australia Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Teck Resources, a diversified Canadian miner with operations in North and South America and exploration in most significant and stable jurisdictions including Australia. Between 2002 and 2006 Tony worked for the National Native Title Tribunal seeking to advance native title claims to Determination. His current role for Teck involves leading land access negotiations, providing advice to project members and engaging directly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Outside of Australia, Tony has worked with community teams in Mongolia, Namibia and Chile and has other operational experience in PNG and Tonga. Tony is passionate is his role as Regional Communities Leader at Teck Australia, in building a strong values based approach to engagement to the benefit of Teck, Teck workers and local communities.
Tony has qualifications reflecting a diverse range of interests and desire to learn and impart knowledge with co-workers; Victoria University (BSc Earth Science), Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (MSc Spatial Science), Curtin University (Cert Knowledge Mgt), University of Queensland (Grad Dip Responsible Mining). Tony is an active member of the AusIMM Community and Environment Committee in seeking to inform and advocate on behalf of AusIMM members on C&E matters, including notions of “Social Performance”, JORC and engagement with ATSI Peoples.
